About the Peace dollar
Designed by Anthony de Francisci to mark the peace after World War I, it shows Liberty on the front and an eagle at rest with an olive branch on the back, above the word PEACE. It was struck from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. Since 2021 the U.S. Mint has issued modern .999 silver versions for collectors. For why the coin weighs 26.73 grams, see why silver dollars weigh 26.73 grams.
Key dates
The 1921, struck in high relief, and the 1928, with the lowest mintage, are the key dates. The 1934-S is also scarce. The mint mark is on the back, near the eagle's wing tip. Don't clean them: cleaning can cut a collectible coin's value sharply.
