Policies
Our policies, in plain language.
A few things worth knowing before you send anything, so there are no surprises. The full legal wording is in our Terms.
How scrap is paid
- Scrap is melted and paid on what it contains: gold scrap on the gold recovered, sterling and silver scrap on the silver. There's no need to sort it or test it first.
- We pay $0 for stones, non-precious metal, and non-metal parts: brass, copper, steel, nickel, and the like, and pearls, glass, enamel, and plastic. If a piece has a valuable stone, take it out before you ship.
- If something turns out not to contain gold, there's nothing to pay for it, and nothing comes back: melted material stays with the refiner.
- Silver inside gold alloys isn't paid unless you choose a mixed scrap settlement.
Mixed scrap settlement
If your lot mixes gold and silver, you can ask for a mixed scrap settlement: we pay on the gold and the silver recovered, for a flat fee of $100 per lot. Ask for it in writing before you ship, and your estimate will note it.
Coins and bullion
Coins and bullion are verified on arrival without damaging them. If one isn't what was described, we'll explain what we found and offer an adjusted amount; if you'd rather not accept it, we return it at your expense.
Counterfeits and replicas
Fakes aren't paid for and aren't returned. Federal law makes counterfeit coins, U.S. and foreign, forfeit to the United States, so counterfeit coins go to law enforcement. Replicas and fake bars may be handed to law enforcement, marked as copies, or destroyed. If you're not sure whether something is genuine, send photos first and we'll tell you what we see.
Stolen property
When you sell to us, you confirm that you own the items or are authorized to sell them. Where a state's law requires scrap and jewelry to be held before melting, we hold them for that time. If we have reason to believe something is stolen, we hold the item and the payment while we look into it, and we may contact law enforcement. We don't return items we believe are stolen; we work with the police so the items reach their rightful owner.
ID and documents
Every sale needs a current government photo ID and a signed ownership statement. If an ID or statement turns out to be altered or untrue, the sale is cancelled and not paid, we keep the records, and we may report it.
Buying from us
- No returns. Metal prices change every minute, so all sales are final.
- Damaged or wrong item? Email us within 3 days of delivery with photos, and we'll replace it.
- Buyback: when you sell back items you bought from us, we pay one percentage point more than our published bid. For example, a 95% bid becomes 96%. Include your order number with your request.
