How selling online works.
Everything is agreed in writing before you ship by mail, and you're paid once your items are verified.
The steps
Request a free estimate
Use the request form, email sales@osirismetals.com, or text photos to (415) 340-1003. Include what the items are, roughly how much they weigh or what you think they're worth, and photos if you can. We reply with a written estimate.
Accept your rate
Your written estimate sets your rate as a percentage of the Kitco bid. That rate is applied to the weight and purity we verify; for scrap, that's the final weight and purity after melting. Scrap is priced at the Kitco bid when melting and assay begin; coins and bullion at the Kitco bid when we verify your package. Your payment confirmation shows the Kitco bid we used. Metal prices move, so the final amount can be higher or lower than an earlier estimate.
Ship your items
Your confirmation includes our shipping address. You can ship by USPS, UPS, or FedEx; see how to ship to us for recommended practices.
- You choose the carrier and cover the postage. We recommend USPS Registered Mail, which includes insurance up to $50,000.
- Put the packing slip from your confirmation email inside the box. It lists your request number and rates.
Melting and verification
Scrap is melted and paid on what it contains: gold scrap on the gold recovered, sterling on the silver. There's no sorting or stone removal needed on your part, but stones and other metals are paid $0. Your payment confirmation lists the figures. Coins and bullion are checked without damaging them; if one isn't what was described, we'll talk it through with you. You can cancel a scrap sale any time before it's melted, and we'll ship it back at your expense; once melted, the sale is final. If you're unsure about anything, send photos before you ship.
Payment
We pay by Zelle, wire, ACH, or PayPal within 7–10 business days of delivery. We pay only to an account in the seller's own name; for an estate or trust, that's the estate's or trust's account. Wire transfers have a $25 fee, deducted from your payment.
Who we buy from
- Sellers 21 or older, with a current government photo ID (we ask for both sides) and a sworn statement, signed online, that they own the items
- A signed statement that you own the items or are authorized to sell them
- Sellers in the United States. We don't currently buy from residents of Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, or Utah. From Texas and Washington we buy only coins and certain bullion, and from Arizona, Arkansas, and Maryland, coins only.
Our minimum is $1,000
Our minimum is $1,000 per order, and smaller lots are considered case by case. Scrap gold needs at least 1/2 troy ounce of scrap material, and scrap sterling at least 1 kilo. If yours is smaller, it's still worth asking.
