What is an American Silver Eagle worth?
The American Silver Eagle is the U.S. Mint's 1 ozt silver bullion coin. It holds one troy ounce of .999 silver, so its value follows the silver price, not the $1 stamped on it.

What is an American Silver Eagle?
The U.S. Mint has struck Silver Eagles since 1986. The front shows Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty, from the half dollar of 1916 to 1947. The back showed a heraldic eagle until 2021, when the Mint changed it to an eagle coming in to land, carrying an oak branch.
- Silver: one troy ounce of .999 fine silver in every coin. The $1 face value is legal tender value only.
- How they're packed: the Mint ships bullion Silver Eagles in tubes of 20, 25 tubes to a sealed green "monster box" of 500. Keep them that way until you sell.
- Proof and burnished coins: proof Eagles (mirror finish) and burnished ones (satin finish, W mint mark) are sold to collectors in boxes with certificates. Send photos of those; they're priced individually.
- Milk spots: white spots are common on Silver Eagles. They don't change the silver content.
