What is a Mexican Libertad worth?

The Libertad is Mexico's bullion coin, in .999 silver and gold. Each holds the metal its size states, so its value follows the silver or gold price, and collectors often pay more.

What is a Libertad?

Mexico's mint, the Casa de Moneda de México, has struck gold Libertads since 1981 and silver ones since 1982. The front shows Winged Victory from Mexico City's Angel of Independence, with the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl behind her; the back shows Mexico's coat of arms.

  • Purity: .999 silver and .999 gold. Every size holds the full weight stated on it.
  • Mintages: far smaller than for Eagles or Maple Leafs, and proofs are made too. Some years sell to collectors for well above their metal; send photos and we'll tell you.
  • Not to be confused with: the older Mexican 50 pesos, a 90% gold coin; see what a 50 pesos is worth.

Check these before you sell
