About the Mercury dime
Adolph Weinman's design actually shows Liberty wearing a winged cap, but it looked like the god Mercury to the public, and the name stuck. The back shows a bundle of rods with an axe.
Key dates
The 1916-D is the famous key date, and the 1921 and 1921-D are scarce. The 1942 dimes with a 2 struck over a 1 are rare errors. The mint mark is on the back, at the lower left of the rods. Don't clean them: cleaning can cut a collectible coin's value sharply.
