Scrap prices are per gram of metal after melting, not per gram of what you send. Stones are removed, and dirt, glue, springs, and anything else that isn't gold or silver burn off or separate out, so the weight paid is usually less than your scale shows.

How to read the chart

  • Karat (K or KT) is out of 24. 14 ÷ 24 = 58.3% gold. See why gold is measured in karats and karat vs carat.
  • Three-digit stamps are parts per thousand: 585 means 58.5% gold.
  • Higher karat means more gold, a deeper yellow, and a softer metal.
  • Letters after the karat, like GF, GP, or HGE, mean filled or plated, not solid. See gold-filled vs gold-plated.
