How to sell platinum.

Selling platinum well comes down to three things: knowing what you have, knowing today's price, and getting a written offer stated as a percentage of that price. Platinum is at $1,412 an ounce right now (the Kitco bid).

Know what you have

  • Platinum jewelry: rings and settings stamped PT950, PLAT, or 950, valued on their platinum.
  • Platinum coins: Platinum Eagles, Maple Leafs, Britannias, and Philharmonics.
  • Platinum bars: 1 ozt and gram bars from refiners like PAMP and Valcambi.

Look for PT950, PLAT, or 950 on jewelry, and don't confuse platinum with white gold: see platinum vs white gold.

Know what it's worth

Dealers pay a percentage of the spot price, the market price for an ounce. We pay 95% of the platinum value for platinum bullion coins and bars; jewelry is priced on its platinum content. Today that comes to:

Ask each buyer what percentage you'll be paid, of which price, and when that price is set. An offer stated as a percentage of the live spot price is easy to compare; a single dollar figure for a bag of mixed items isn't. See how much buyers pay.

Ship it safely, or meet in person

Selling online works well once you have a written estimate. Ship it by mail, insured, with tracking and a signature. In the Bay Area we come to you for estates. See how to ship.

Get paid

We pay within 7 to 10 business days after delivery, by Zelle, wire, ACH, or PayPal, to an account in your name. You'll need photo ID and a signed ownership statement. See how it works.
