How much is a gold wedding band worth?
A plain gold wedding band is worth its weight in gold, times its karat. A typical 14K band of a few grams is worth a few hundred dollars at today's gold price, far less than it cost new.

What a band is worth today
Gold is trading at $3,925 per troy ounce (the Kitco bid). We pay 94% of melt value for gold jewelry:

Scrap prices are per gram of metal after melting, not per gram of what you send. Stones are removed, and dirt, glue, springs, and anything else that isn't gold or silver burn off or separate out, so the weight paid is usually less than your scale shows.

Read the stamp inside
- 14K, 14KT, or 585: 58.3% gold.
- 18K, 18KT, or 750: 75% gold.
- 10K or 417: 41.7% gold.
- PT950, PLAT, or 950: platinum, priced on its platinum; see platinum jewelry.
- No precious metal: tungsten, titanium, cobalt, and stainless bands have no metal value to a gold buyer.

Why it's worth less than it cost
A new band's price covers design, labor, and the jeweler's markup on top of the gold. Sold as gold, it's worth its metal, so a band bought recently usually brings much less than its price, while one bought decades ago, when gold was far cheaper, can bring more than it cost.
Bands we can't accept
We can't buy jewelry with personal engravings or inscriptions, such as a band engraved inside with names, initials, or a date. Plain bands are fine. Diamonds and stones in a band aren't paid as gold, so have a jeweler remove any you want to keep.
