What decides a silver bar's value

  • Weight and purity: both are stamped on the bar. A 100 ozt bar of .999 silver holds 99.9 troy ounces of pure silver.
  • Troy ounces, not kitchen ounces: a troy ounce is 31.1 grams, about 10% heavier than the ounce on a kitchen scale. See troy ounces, grams, and pennyweight.
  • Lower purity: bars stamped .925 (sterling) or lower are paid on their silver content at our sterling or lower-purity rates; see our bids.
  • Coins are separate: government silver coins such as Silver Eagles and Maple Leafs have their own rate; see Silver Eagles and Maple Leafs.

Check these before you sell

Count your bars by size and maker. Large bars are heavy: a 100 ozt bar weighs almost 7 pounds, so pack them so they can't shift. See how to ship to us. We verify every bar on arrival and pay on what we find.
