Guide
U.S. Mint 2026 releases.
For the nation's 250th anniversary, the U.S. Mint redesigned the dime, quarter, and half dollar for 2026 and dated its coins "1776 ~ 2026". Here's what came out, what's still coming, and which coins contain silver or gold.
Updated October 26, 2026
As of October 22, 2026
The redesigned circulating coins
A 2021 law, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act, allowed one-year designs for 2026. The Mint unveiled them on December 11, 2025, and began shipping on January 5, 2026. Every circulating coin is dual-dated 1776 ~ 2026.
- Dime: the "Emerging Liberty" design, with Liberty on the dime for the first time since 1945.
- Half dollar: the "Enduring Liberty" design, with the Statue of Liberty, replacing the Kennedy half for 2026 only.
- Nickel: the usual Jefferson design, dual-dated.
- Quarters: five designs through the year, in the table below.
- $1 coin: a Semiquincentennial dollar, sold by the Mint in rolls and bags.
| Quarter | Released |
|---|---|
| Mayflower Compact | January 2026 |
| Revolutionary War (Washington) | March 2026 |
| Declaration of Independence (Jefferson) | June 1, 2026 |
| U.S. Constitution (Madison) | August 2026 |
| Gettysburg Address (Lincoln) | October 19, 2026, the last of the series |
None of the circulating coins contain silver. The Mint also mixed 250,000 specially marked coins of three kinds into circulation: Declaration quarters with a "July 4" privy mark, half dollars marking September 11 with a W mint mark, and dollars with a "July 4th" privy mark.
In 2027 the coins go back to their usual designs, except the quarter and half dollar, which move to new youth sports and Paralympic designs through 2030.
The end of the penny
The Mint struck its last circulating cent on November 12, 2025. Cents remain legal tender, and it's still illegal to melt or export them. 2026 cents exist only in the Mint's collector sets.
Silver and gold coins in 2026
- Bullion: 2026 American Silver Eagles, Gold Eagles, and Gold Buffalos for dealers carry a plain 2026 date. The proof and other collector versions carry the 1776 ~ 2026 date and a "250" privy mark. The Mint's sales report shows 9.73 million Silver Eagles sold from January through September, and none in May.
- Silver proof set: on sale from June 11, with the dime, five quarters, and half dollar struck in .999 silver, about 1.47 ounces of silver in all.
- Morgan and Peace dollars: continued in 2026 in .999 silver, 0.859 ounces each, as reverse proofs and enhanced uncirculated coins.
- Gold reissues and new shapes: 24-karat gold versions of five classic designs, including the 1916 Mercury dime and the 1907 High Relief $20, and a bell-shaped Liberty Bell gold coin, the first U.S. coin that isn't round.
- Platinum: a 1 ozt proof honoring the Declaration of Independence, the first of a three-year series.
- Commemoratives: the 2026 FIFA World Cup coins: a $5 gold coin, a $1 silver coin, and a clad half dollar.
