Guide
Scrap silver prices.
Scrap silver is paid on the pure silver it contains: its weight, times its purity, times the silver price. Sterling is the most common, but older European silver and damaged bullion are scrap too.

What we pay for scrap silver today
Silver is trading at $50.10 per troy ounce (the Kitco bid). Here's what we pay per kilo of each kind:
| Scrap silver, per kilo | Silver content | We pay today |
|---|---|---|
| Sterling (925), 80% of content | 29.74 ozt | $1,191.91 |
| Damaged or scrap .999 silver, 80% of content | 32.12 ozt | $1,287.26 |
| 800 silver, 70% of content | 25.72 ozt | $901.99 |
Scrap prices are per gram of metal after melting, not per gram of what you send. Stones are removed, and dirt, glue, springs, and anything else that isn't gold or silver burn off or separate out, so the weight paid is usually less than your scale shows.
Our minimum for scrap sterling is 1 kilo, about 2.2 pounds. You can mix different kinds of silver in one shipment. Unsorted lots are processed together and paid at the rate for the purity of the combined lot, so mixing in lower-purity silver lowers the payout: anything under 90% silver is paid at the lower-purity silver rate (70%).
What counts as scrap silver
- Sterling: broken or unwanted jewelry, flatware, and tea sets and trays stamped STERLING or 925. See how to identify sterling.
- Lower-purity silver: older European silver stamped 800, 830, or 835.
- Damaged fine silver: bent, cut, or melted .999 bars and rounds.
- Not scrap silver: silver plate (EP, EPNS, "silver plate") and nickel silver have almost no silver value.
Why the melt can weigh less
Weighted candlesticks, knife handles filled with cement, stones, and steel clasp springs all add weight that isn't silver. We pay on the silver recovered after melting, and your payment confirmation shows every figure.
